Description
With its added biochar content, our Biochar Plant Improver Compost is designed to support a higher presence of fungi and earthworms. This compost is crafted to create a wonderfully nutrient rich environment for your plants.
There is anecdotal evidence that biochar can arrest and cure ash trees of ash dieback. We are trialling our Biochar Plant Improver Compost on an ash tree on our farm which would otherwise have to be felled; see blog article. Fingers crossed it works!
We are only just starting to understand the symbiotic relationship between microorganisms, fungi and plants in the transfer of nutrients which is attracting more interest from the scientific world.
Mix into your soil either by hand or trowel. Can be applied topically to lawns.
Application Rates
For best results, the recommended ratio is blending 1 part biochar to 3 parts topsoil.
OR One 20kg bag for between 1.5 to 2 per square metre.
Or apply 1-2 inches deep over the surface and infiltrate into your soil.
When applying to an in-situ tree, sprinkle evenly the Biochar Plant Improver to the edge so you can see an even spread.
On a tree you are planting, back fill the hole so the roots have a good covering, then top fill the surface with the topsoil.
